ENLIVEN, ENRICH, EDUCATE, EXPRESS and ENJOY

I believe that dance, movement and physical activity has great benefits to people of all generations. My aim for KM Dance & Fitness is that classes and workshops follow the five important ‘E’s: ENLIVEN, ENRICH, EDUCATE, EXPRESS and ENJOY to help transform people’s present lives. Dance, movement and fitness not only teaches technical and physical skills but enables many transferable skills to encourage personal development and growth as well as ensuring we are maintaining the best physical health and mental well-being we can in today’s society.

Katie Mason

I hold a BA Hons degree in Dance from the University of Chichester and a Diploma in Dance Teaching and Learning from Trinity Laban. Since 2013, I have been a freelance dance practitioner working for companies including Rambert, English National Ballet and Step into Dance for the Royal Academy of Dance.  This has involved me travelling around London and the UK leading workshops within a variety of contexts such as schools, day centres, theatres, community centres and hospitals, all of which has provided the opportunity for me to work with a widely diverse age group from 2-99 year olds.  I have spent time in South Africa with Dance for All and New York with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre working on dance projects for disadvantaged young people which has allowed me to develop a passion for how the wellbeing of individuals can be improved through dance.  Throughout my career, I have choreographed a number of works for both young people and older adults which have been performed at venues across the UK for a variety of different arts platforms and festivals.  In recent years, I have taken a further focus and now specialises in leading classes, workshops and talks on working with older adults and those with specific health conditions. Across 2015-2017, I worked with Rambert as their Elders Programme Coordinator developing specialist classes for older adults in London and this culminated in me organising a very successful Dance and Health Symposium to celebrate and raise awareness for the health benefits of Dance. I now run my own independent over 60s classes in West London and is also proud to lead the ENBEldersCo, a performance group for older adults with English National Ballet. Throughout the Covid Pandemic, I took my teaching online, which led me to being appointed as the lead Dance Artist for the We Are Undefeatable Campaign; a national campaign to keep people with long term health conditions active. The campaign gained a lot of media attention and resulted in me being fortunate enough to discuss my experiences with this project on BBC National News.

To enhance my passion for health and wellbeing, I am also a qualified Fitness instructor and alongside my freelance dance teaching, I am the Studio Manager at F45 Ealing, a global franchise brand that focuses on fitness classes.

Working across Dance, Health and Fitness, I strongly believe in taking a holistic and preventative view on health is of great importance and I feel very fortunate to be able to share my passion for dance with others.
