Buckinghamshire Taster Dance and Health Sessions

As part of Buckinghamshire Culture Open Weekend in July 2023, KM Dance & Fitness delivered two taster sessions in Dance and Health in partnership with Buckinghamshire Wellbeing Community Hub in Aylesbury.

There we two separate classes, one specifically for those with Dementia and their carers and another for older adults who may have long term health conditions. The classes consoisted on seated and standing movement sequcnes based on the Buckinghamshire Culture Open Weekend theme of ‘Open World’. Different musical genres were chosen and the movement focused on improving co-ordination, balance, rhythm, cardiovascular, memory, strength and musicality. We finished both classes with a social hour where we reflected back on the class and how it felt to be dancing whilst drinking a cup of tea!

Watch this space for similar classes coming soon to Buckinghamshire.

The routines are great. I like the variety and the fact that there is a definite dance element to them all. Every part of the body gets a workout but with dance and rhythm which makes it fun to do rather than straight exercises which can become boring. And Katie has a great eclectic selection of music!

Katie visited our secondary school to complete an all day workshop. I was impressed by her communication beforehand, which reassured me she knew exactly what my intentions of the workshop were. Katie completed differently structured workshops throughout the day, to meet the varied needs of different year groups and abilities. Some were working on performance skills, whilst others were working on exam content. Katie understood fully what I wanted the students to achieve within each workshop, it was catered perfectly and professionally. The students absolutely loved their sessions and I would not hesitate to use Katie again. I highly recommend her, she was friendly and approachable for students whilst providing a respectful and challenging dance environment.
